画家・田崎廣助の作品を永久保存する目的で設立された個人美術館。地上二階建ての鉄筋コンクリート造、木造小屋組で構成される。積乱雲形の屋根、幾何学的な壁面構成など軽井沢の自然と風土に呼応する形象が、じかに内外の空間の境界に現われる。中庭を囲んで展示室・資料室・応接室・研究室が配され、そこに広いロビーが加わり、機能的に優れている。雲や樹影や鳥、そして来館者の姿がガラスに映り、これも生きた「世界風景」の例である。
中庭を囲むガラス壁の形状は、複雑な映り込みを生み境界を曖昧にする。また展示室内部の多数の柱は互いにずれ、重なり合うことで多層性を作り出す。ここで原は、気候や時間による建築の見え方や感じ方の変化を意識し、「多層構造」を内包する「様相」概念の具体化を試みた。本設計にあたり、原は数百枚のスケッチを描いた。［KS］

This is a commemorative private museum permanently preserving the works of the painter Tasaki Hirosuke. It is a two-story building composed of reinforced concrete and wooden hut. The cumulonimbus cloud-shaped roof and the geometric composition of the wall surfaces appearing on the boundaries between the inside and the outside express the nature and climate of Karuizawa. The courtyard is surrounded by exhibition rooms, a library, a reception room and a laboratory, and is complemented by a large lobby, making it a highly functional building. The reflections of clouds, shadows of trees, birds, and visitors on the glass walls, are another example of the “landscape of world.”
The shape of the glass walls surrounding the courtyard makes the boundaries ambiguous by creating complex reflections. Many of the alternately arranged interior columns and figures create a multi-layered structure by overlapping each other. Hara planned the possibilities of changes in the way architecture looks and feels with climate and time, and tried to embody the concept of “modality” that includes the method of “multi-layered structure.” In designing the project, he made hundreds of sketches.
